Artists using archives

Luke Fowler’s most recent film The Poor Stockinger, the Luddite Cropper and the deluded followers of Joanna Southcott commissioned by The Hepworth Wakefield and Oliver Plender’s current exhibition Rise Early, Be Industrious at the CCA are comparable examples of artists using archive sources to examine and explore developments in education provision and institutional models. The works cite influential leaders in this area such as EP Thompson’s work with the Workers Education Association and the Open University’s interdisciplinary Art and Environment course which can be cited as a milestone towards the establishment of the Environmental Art course at the GSA.
