History
Margaret Elizabeth Dowell, born 10/02/1901, worked as a secretary when she first attended The Glasgow School of Art in 1916. She took afternoon classes in Drawing and Painting under the tutorship of Miss Jessie R. Allan (watercolour instructor) and continued to do so through to 1919. For the period of 1918-1919, Dowell appears in the records under the name "Greta E. Dowell'.
After a year away from The Glasgow School of Art, Dowell returned to her studies in 1920. This time she attended as a day student, and took classes in Drawing and Painting until 1922. Between 1920-1922 Dowell is no longer listed as having an occupation. Throughout the duration of her studies, Dowell's registered abode was 'Glenholm, Lenzie'. Her brother William Dowell also attended The Glasgow School of Art for the 1918-1919 session.
