History

Alastair Macdonald studied Product Design at GSA from 1973 and did the set and lighting for the 1978 fashion show. He was awarded the Leverhulme Travelling Scholarship in Industrial design at undergraduate level in 1977.

Alastair started to teach in First Year Studies in 1984 and was the joint first prize winner of the Glasgow Garden Festival 1988 architectural competition in session 1985-86. He later taught in the Design School and in July 2016 was appointed Senior Researcher in the School of Design. He gained a personal professorship from the University of Glasgow in 2000 and was winner in the ‘Best Research’ category in the inaugural 2018 AHRC/ Wellcome Health Humanities Awards.
