James Nicoll (born 28th March 1888) was a student at The Glasgow School of Art in 1915-1916 and 1917-1918 and lived in West Scotland Street, Kinning Park. During his first spell, he was an evening student studying drawing and painting with his occupation recorded as a metal engraver. On his return to the school he studied again in the evenings but in the discipline of design with Miss Crawford as his teacher. James was a recipient of the City Educational Endowment Board Bursary of the amount of £3 during the 1917-1918 session.
