History
George Paterson was born on the 6th of September 1888, one of 9 children of Mary Paterson and John Paterson, a house painter. He attended The Glasgow School of Art from 1906 to 1912, first as a part-time student in architecture from 1905 to 1908, then spending one year in design and decorative arts, and finishing as a full-time student in drawing and painting from 1910 to 1012. He studied as a painter and decorator under Greiffenhagen and others. During World War One, he served in the Highland Light Infantry.
