Robert Currie Robertson was born on 1st November 1883 in Kilmarnock, Ayr to Jessie Robertson and Alexander Robertson, a forgemaster. He attended The Glasgow School of Art from 1904 to 1912. In 1909/10 he is recorded as a teacher of preparatory anatomy (by ornament) and preparatory painting, and in 1912/13, as an instructor of antique and painting. He also taught at Glasgow High School. In August 1914 he emigrated to Australia aboard the Beltana passenger ship from London to Sydney. He enlisted with the Australian Expeditionary Forces in September of the following year, and was drafted to Egypt, France, and Flanders (Belgium). He was killed in action in the second battle of Bullecourt, France in May 1917. Robert C Robertson is commemorated in the Australian National Memorial in Villers-Bretonneux, France and on The Glasgow School of Art's First World War Roll of Honour.
