History
James Cyril Robson was born in 1893 and studied at The Glasgow School of Art for five years, between 1910 and 1915. Initially he resided at 20 Napiershall Street, later moving to 28 Viewpark Drive in Rutherglen. Robson's tuition was subsidised by the City Local Authority.
Robson is on record as being a student of The Royal Technical College, which later in the century became the University of Strathclyde. The Royal Technical College was affiliated with The Glasgow School of Art at this time and jointly delivered the Architecture programme. Robson, however, was not a student of Architecture; he undertook Saturday studies at The School in Drawing and Painting. He was under the tutelage of Andrew Law and also Charles H. E. Ogilvie, both of whom specialised in Antique and Preparatory Life.
Whether or not Robson continued with his artistic ambitions is unknown. Given the dates and geographic location, it is possible that he is the father of Sir James Gordon Robson (1921-2007), a noted professor of anaesthetics who was born in Stirling to a James Cyril Robson and Freda Elizabeth Howard. Sir James Gordon Robson had a prolific medical career, finally being appointed professor of anaesthetics at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, Hammersmith in 1964.
