History
Janie C. Ross was born in 1880 and attended The Glasgow School of Art for the academic year 1914 to 1915 and again from 1917 to 1920. Ross occupied many different addresses during this time, initially residing at 4 Caledonian Mansions an later residing at 10 Buckingham Terrace, 12 Westbourne Terrace and finally at 1 Albert Gate. Interestingly, for the academic year 1917 to 1918, Ross' home address is listed as 'Russia.' It is unknown what relation Ross may have had to Russia, but we may speculate the connection was war-related.
Ross was a day student of Drawing and Painting during her time at The School. For the year commencing in 1917, Ross was under the tutelage of the assistant professor Mr. W. Somerville Shanks, who taught various subjects in the Life School, such as Life, Head Life, Portrait and Costume Model, Antique and Still Life. Ross' studies were situated in Room 24, confirming that she studied Anatomy and Life.
It is unknown whether Ross pursued her artistic ambitions after her time at The Glasgow School of Art.
