Archival history
At a meeting of the Academic Council on 08 Feb 1990 Mr Cosgrove suggested that an Academic Standards Committee be newly-constituted to undertake work with regard to the Institutional Plan and admissions procedures. The first meeting of this Committee was an Ad Hoc Academic Standards Committee and was composed of: The Acting Director; Heads of Schools; Heads of Fine Art and Design Sections; A Senior Lecturer from Drawing & Painting; Representative of Historical & Critical Studies; Two Senior Lecturers from First Year Studies; Representative of Admissions Officers; Assistant Secretary; Secretary & Treasurer; and Registrar.
The earliest minutes of the Academic Standards Committee in this set are for a meeting on 05 Oct 1990.
At the meeting of the Academic Standards Committee on 12 Dec 1991, the Chairman explained that the Committee was intended to form the cornerstone of the School’s quality assurance procedures. Its remit included all things academic from the approval of new course proposals, to the monitoring and review of existing courses. It was hoped that the Committee would act as a centre of debate and the dissemination of good practice in academic matters throughout the School. The Committee reported to and informed the Academic Council.
